at Großer Saal

THE WALL

Yana Mann's Performance - "The Wall"

In a powerful and evocative performance titled "The Wall," Yana Mann brings to life the poignant poem penned by artist and sculptor Armin Najib. The performance seamlessly integrates sculptures, installations, and Najib's profound verses, creating a multi-sensory experience that transcends conventional artistic boundaries.

The stage is set amidst the aftermath of conflict, symbolised by the rubble that surrounds. Yana Mann stands in the midst of this devastation, embodying the resilient spirit captured in Najib's words. The air is thick with the echoes of war, and Mann skilfully conveys the palpable tension through her physical presence.

A central element of the performance is the symbolic seed that cracks, signifying the yearning for a breath of fresh air and the emergence of hope from the ruins. This moment serves as a metaphor for resilience and the indomitable human spirit that persists even in the darkest times.

As Mann sings “lay bricks one by one”, the audience is drawn into the process of rebuilding. The question lingers: will these walls, erected painstakingly, crumble again? The elusive truth is explored as the bricks stack up, each layer a testament to the fragility of human endeavours in the face of conflict and uncertainty.

Interview with Yana Mann

“There are stories about sadness and pain, but also about love and separation and about loss and hope.”

Irreverece Group Music had the opportunity to interview Yana about this new project, her musical work and other plans for the future.

“Yana’s voice is pure, dark and calm…”

— Billboard World Music News

“For Mann, the achievement is a remarkable solo debut album that demonstrates not only the natural beauty of her voice but the sustained emotional directness with which she deploys it. Mann accentuates the faintest glimmer of hope in these songs detailing loss and absence with such gentle force that the cycle comes to generate a distinctly up-to-date melancholia.”

— Thomas May

Yana eschews the operatic conventions of extreme vibrato and delivers in a voice with a clear, pure tone and perfect diction together with a passion that cannot fail to impress.

— Philip Thomas

The dark, pensive music captures moments of intimate, sometimes anonymous confessions, painful recollections and nocturnal reflections on life, death, love and loss.

— Andrei Cherascu

Listen Up

6. Su voz
La crueldad de su voz
Despiadada verdad.

¡Piedad! ¡Piedad! Soledad, abrázame en paz.
En el silencio de mi noche oscura,
guarda el secreto de mi corazón.

Muero, porque no muero.

6. Her Voice
The cruelty of her voice
Merciless truth.

Her voice, with a soothing pain, says goodbye, without lying.
She leaves, like summer in a cold, faraway city.

Her voice is a sorrow that pierces me in the dark.
The glass is empty, just like her voice...
Mercy! Have mercy! Solitude, embrace me in peace.
In the silence of my dark night,
guard the secret of my heart.

I die, because I don’t die.
